Top Asked Salesforce Interview Questions

Proven questions and architect-level breakdown answers frequently encountered at FAANG, Big 4, and top Salesforce partners.

1. How do you handle Governor Limits in Batch Apex when processing millions of records?

Architect Solution: When dealing with millions of records in Batch Apex:

  • Query Locator vs Iterable: Always use Database.getQueryLocator() in start() method to allow processing up to 50 million records instead of the 50,000 limit for list iteration.
  • Optimal Scope Size: Tune batch scope size (default 200, range 1-2000). Reduce to 50 or 20 if triggers downstream hit CPU timeout (10,000ms limit).
  • State Management: Avoid implementing Database.Stateful unless strictly necessary, as it serializes instance variables between batches and increases memory consumption.
  • Chaining Batches: Implement finish() callback to chain sequential batches or fire Queueable jobs for async post-processing.

2. What is the difference between @wire(getRecord) and Imperative Apex call in LWC?

Architect Solution: Wire Service vs Imperative Apex:

  • Wire Service: Declarative, reactive, automatically managed by Lightning Data Service (LDS) client-side cache. It re-evaluates when reactive variables change. Cannot be invoked on user action (button click).
  • Imperative Call: Used when fetching data on demand (e.g., button click), when modifying DML, or when cache control (refreshApex) needs custom timing. Must return a JavaScript Promise.

3. How does Salesforce Data Cloud resolve duplicate customer profiles using Identity Resolution?

Architect Solution: Data Cloud uses Match and Reconciliation Rules across Unified Data Model (UDM):

  • Match Rules: Exact or Fuzzy match criteria based on Party Identification (Email, Phone, CRM Contact Id).
  • Reconciliation Rules: Resolves attribute conflicts (e.g., Most Frequent, Last Updated, Source Priority) to generate a single Unified Individual record.

4. How do criteria-based sharing rules differ from manual sharing in Salesforce Security Model?

Architect Solution: Criteria-Based Sharing grants access based on field values (e.g. Industry = ‘Finance’) regardless of record owner. Manual Sharing allows record owners/admins to grant access to individual records via UI or Apex Managed Sharing (AccountShare table).
